World Vegan Day

Promoting a compassionate lifestyle

Media Release August 2006

Estimated 5,000 to celebrate a healthy lifestyle

It's official! World Vegan Day Melbourne 2006 is set to be the largest yet with interest in this year's event simply astounding event coordinators.

"The enthusiasm in World Vegan Day Melbourne 2006 has been remarkable to date and certainly suggests that this years' event will be even greater than last year's," says Mark Doneddu, Organising Committee president.

In 2005, over 5,000 people packed out World Vegan Day Melbourne as part of the international celebrations that promote a vegan lifestyle as a compassionate and healthy alternative.

The free event, first held in 1994 in England, is now celebrated world wide and on Sunday October 29, 2006 from 10am to 5pm Melbournians will be able to come together to learn more about this increasing popular dietary lifestyle.

A vegan diet avoids any consumption of animal products and World Vegan Day Melbourne at the Phoenix Community Reserve in East Malvern (Melways Map 69 D2) will showcase the diverse and delicious array of foods available plus non-animal tested health and beauty products.

There will also be free entertainment with musicians, activities, fun games and some fantastic raffle prizes plus a diverse variety of all kinds of vegan related products from shows to belts as well as vegan-friendly services and information. The event is also pet-friendly so please bring your much-loved four legged friend along.

A free bus shuttle service will be provided from East Malvern station to the venue and like last year World Vegan Day will provide both indoor and outdoor activity areas. So, no matter what weather Melbourne may dish up, the festivities of World Vegan Day will not be dampened.
